Karmafloor Levelling Acoustic Batten
Concrete Floor:
- Lay the perimeter using Karmafloor Levelling Acoustic Battens, adjustable foot to lower surface, ensuring battens are offset by a minimum of 50mm from any external or load bearing wall. If when laying the final batten a non standard length is required either utilise a bespoke length, as requested at order stage, or cut a standard batten to length ensuring the presence of an adjustable foot support at no more than 100mm from any cut end.
- Lay the Karmafloor Levelling Acoustic Battens within the perimeter battens, staggering joints at 400mm centres if using 18mm chipboard and 600mm centres if using 22mm chipboard. Stagger joints of cut battens within a grid by alternating from one side to the other, once again ensuring the presence of an adjustable foot support at no more than 100mm from any cut end.
Please note non standard lengths can be provided if specified at the initial order stage.
- Where an internal partition runs the opposite way from the battens bridge two lines of levelling batten, using softwood hung from joist hangers, to form a ladder at 400mm centres to provide a suitable base.
- Starting at the highest point of the floor, working out towards the perimeter, adjust each threaded foot from the surface of the batten as necessary to the required level using a cordless drill, please note adjustments are step-less with a maximum acceptable upward movement of 30mm.
- Position Karmaplus Acoustic Perimeter Strip around the floor perimeter.
- Coat battens with acoustic sealant and lay the chipboard, ensuring the joints are staggered, short edges are resting on a batten and a 10mm gap is left at the floor perimeter.
- Screw the chipboard to the battens using four countersunk screws across the face, two 25mm in from each edge and two equidistant in between.
- Glue continuously along the tongued and grooved joints, removing any excess glue with a damp cloth. All joints must be tightly butted.
- Seal any gaps in the floating floor with acoustic sealant.
- Fold over the perimeter flanking strip and trap it underneath the skirting board to ensure it is not in contact with the chipboard.
Timber Floor – Solid Timber floors only, not suitable for use on O.S.B, Independent Verification should be sort as to the condition and suitability of the floor before installation:
- Lay the perimeter using Karmafloor Levelling Acoustic Battens, adjustable foot to lower surface, ensuring battens are offset by a minimum of 50mm from any external or load bearing wall. If when laying the final batten a non standard length is required either utilise a bespoke length, as requested at order stage, or cut a standard batten to length ensuring the presence of an adjustable foot support at no more than 100mm from any cut end.

- Install acoustic quilt in between battens.
- In a brick bonded method, lay the plank on the battens, ensuring the joints are staggered, short edges are resting on a batten and leave a 10mm gap at the floor perimeter.
- Screw the plank to the battens using four drywall screws across the face, two 25mm in from each edge and two equidistant in between.
- Leaving a 10mm gap at the perimeter, lay the chipboard in the same direction as the plank, ensuring the plank joints are staggered from the chipboard joints. Spot bond chipboard to the plank and ensure the short edges of chipboard rest above a batten.
- Glue continuously along the tongued and grooved joints, removing any excess glue with a damp cloth. All joints must be tightly butted.
- Seal any gaps in the floating floor with acoustic sealant.
- Fold over the perimeter flanking strip and trap it underneath the skirting board to ensure it is not in contact with the chipboard.
