Technical Installation Guide << back

Karmafloor Acoustic Retro Panel

  • Both the roof of the building and the windows should be in place prior to the installation of the Karmafloor Acoustic Retro Panel.
  • Ensure floor joists are flat, level and free of any debris.
  • Apply Karmaplus Acoustic Perimeter Strip to the base of the walls at joist level around the periphery of the room to ensure minimise potential flanking paths.
  • Commence installation in the furthest corners of the room and work back towards the door openings.
  • Cut tongues off the joints in the Karmafloor Acoustic Retro Panels in perimeter areas so that a square edge abuts the previously fitted Karmaplus Acoustic Perimeter Strip.
  • Lay the acoustic retro panels directly over floor joists in an interlocking brickbond pattern.
  • Where the acoustic retro panel joints fall midway between the floor joists, place a noggin in the floor void to support the retro deck joints.  (Do not screw fix the Karmafloor Acoustic Retro Panels to the floor joists other than as a temporary measure whilst joint adhesive is setting.)
  • Lightweight timber or metal stud partitions may be built on the acoustic retro panels.  However separating walls comprised of twin studs should always be built off the floor joists.
  • Use an acoustic sealant to fill any gaps between the edge of the acoustic retro panels and the Karmaplus Acoustic Perimeter Strip.  Holes through the floor e.g. radiator pipe penetrations should be similarly sealed.
